I am not a professional trainer but I have helped my own kids to climb,and be sucessfull at climbing.
Most training for climbing that you read about is directed to adults. Kids are in a different league, and therefore need to be trained differently.

Rules:
To become strong at climbing, go to gym and get on the wall. There is no substitute!
Train 3 days a week for 1 hr.
No weight lifting allowed
Typical workout:
Stretch - 5 min.
10 pullups
Warm up climb – Traverse the room 1 to 2 times - 5 min
10 pullups
Start easy routes and work to more difficult routes. - 30 min
10 pullups
Climb your difficult mastered routes. 15 min.
Cool down traverse around the gym.
Get Ice cream for your shaved monkey!
Help out!:
If the monkey can not make a move to the next hold… then hold the monkey on the wall until they understand how they need to move and shift their weight in order to complete the move. This will help them learn about how to make a move, how to grip, and how to balance or weight shift.
Pick a really hard route that is just out of their capability – spend 15 min attempting to climb and figure it out. Climb “off route” to the difficult part, and keep trying till you get it. Some times it may take a couple of weeks on the same route till you get it.
Every time you master a difficult route, climb the rout each time you go to the gym.
